4 Tips For Boosting Your Confidence at Your Next Brand Photoshoot

Apr 1, 2022 | By: Amy Crosby Photography

For most of us, being in front of the camera feels unnatural, and possibly even terrifying. Everything from what to wear the day of, to what to do with your hands and where to look is enough to make your head spin. This lack of confidence is why so many business owners avoid having a real brand photoshoot done. An experience that should inject confidence throughout your brand and business leads to a big cluster of stress, frustration and self-doubt.

Luckily, there are ways to work around these roadblocks and actually enjoy your brand photoshoot - resulting in incredible pictures that really bring out your personality and convey your message. These four super simple tips for boosting your confidence will have you glowing at your next photoshoot!

  1. Find the right photographer

Finding the right photographer isn’t necessarily a “one size fits all” situation. Sometimes, you don't click with someone as well as you'd like to. That’s okay and, if this happens, it’s super important to the quality of your photoshoot and your experience as a whole to find a photographer you click with better.

Your photographer should make you feel comfortable and should be able to help pull confidence out of you. It’s definitely reasonable to want to spend some time with your photographer, for instance, during the planning session or getting feedback on wardrobe choices. This will ensure that, when photoshoot day comes, you’ll feel like there’s a friend holding the camera. If you feel uncomfortable or don’t feel confident in the ability or guidance of your photographer, you shouldn’t be working together. This should be an exciting and empowering experience for you, not a stressful one.

  1. Set a cohesive feel

The number one rule to remember is to stay consistent and genuine throughout your brand. Your photoshoot should capture your genuine personality and spark, so don’t try to fit into a super stiff, professional mold if that’s not who you are! I can not impress upon you enough how important it is to do whatever makes you feel confident in yourself and your business. Make sure to discuss your goals, personality and insecurities with your photographer so they can help you create your vision. They will also be able to help you decide on a location for your photoshoot that will compliment your pictures and lend itself to your brand rather than overwhelm them. Each little piece of the photoshoot ties in together and your photographer is there to help with it all!

  1. Get yourself prepared

Be sure to get plenty of rest the night before and be mindful to stay hydrated and take care of yourself. You don’t have to go over the top with a full-on spa treatment, but even doing your nails can help boost your confidence for the big day. Your makeup and hair don’t have to break your bank. Even your outfits should be well-fitting and comfortable, rather than flashy and scratchy. If you have trouble finding a wardrobe that fits both your body and your personality, consider hiring a stylist, or your photographer can help with that too.

The day of your brand photoshoot is probably going to be a long one, so make sure you’re prepared for the day itself, too. Bring plenty of healthy and energy-sustaining snacks and water, so you can stay fresh and confident all day long.

  1. Most importantly - Have fun!

If you’re not having fun, everyone who sees your pictures will know it. Play music, jump around, tell jokes, watch silly videos. Give yourself permission to shine and do whatever it takes to loosen yourself up. Your brand photoshoot doesn’t have to be a stressful, forced time. Enjoy the moment and discover new confidence within yourself that you can carry forward in all that you do!
